LANDSCAPE " P L U G I M " - CHIRISAN - KOREA SOUTH
( 1997 )
With the sponsorhip of HAN WHA NATIONAL LAND DEVELOPMENT and ART SPACE SEOUL, five young Spanish sculptors and a Korean sculptor are holding an exhibition with the theme of MOUNT JIRI. The artists are: Alfredo Sánchez, Begoña Uriarte, Mireia Clotet, Manuel Díaz, Venancio Pardo and Juan De-Yol.
In order to create their masterpieces, these artists have lodged in a closed school located in Gu rai village at the base of Mount Jiri. Their works of art incorporates the emotions surrounding the history of the Korean citizens who have lived through the years at Mount Jiri.
The young Spanish sculptors realized that both Korea and Spain have suffered from a violent modern history. Due to the similarities of their histories, these two countries have lots of sympathy for each other. This may be the reason as to how these young Spanish sculptors could produce such emotional works of art while at Mount Jiri.
These works will be exhibited outdoors near the Hwa Um Sa of Mount Jiri. Venancio, Mireia, Manuel y Juan de Yol works will be exhibited in Seoul at Art Space Seoul, where there will be a three dimensional exhibition linking the location and the exhibition hall.
This exhibition is meaningful in a sense that the young artists perception of Mount Jiri and the cultural exchange of histories between Spain and Korea reaches its horizon.
I would like to thank the HAN WHA NATIONAL LAND DEVELOPMENT for their activity and also for making this exhibition possible.
I hope that art admirers will take agreat interest in this exhibition of the cultural exchange between Spain and Korea.
